Cognitive therapy can help to address the psychological aspect of depression. To fully understand which symptoms and the severity of depression, counselors should use varied assessments. Depression can impede executive functioning skills, judgment and visual spatial skills. Skill functioning is best addressed thru work and school assessments. Client communication, assessment tools and talk therapy, allows me to assess the severity and impact of depression on the life of a client. Family education around depression can help avoid relapse episodes. Stress management, sleep patterns and diet can all be supported thru peer and family education as well as medical and psychology professionals. Collaboration between all the various supports allows for the greatest treatment success. Incorporating creative aspects to evidence based practice shows respect for strength-based therapy.
